Bricolage sonic bits and pieces, audio tchotchkes, brief aural oddments, and random auditory knickknacks…

9. Myanmar In Sound

In this audio ethnography undertaken during a two-week stay (December 2015) in Myanmar, we invite listeners to join us on a sound walk through Mandalay, the second largest city and former royal capital, as well as Bagan, an ancient city and archeological area southwest of Mandalay on the eastern banks of the Ayeyarwady River. The field recordings presented in this audio ethnography have not been “staged,” nor aurally enhanced post-production. Instead, this aural ethnography is layered in one continuous thread. More info on sound sources HERE.

8. Lonely As A Cloud

This soundscape is inspired by William Wordsworth's poem, "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud," featuring birdsong and other instrumentation (e.g., shruti box, chimes, singing bowl, rainstick, and mbira), in addition to a short solo snippet from the poem, "Mapping the Source," by my dear friend, The Teafaerie.

4. Safe ‘N Sound

'Itty-Bits #4: This sound painting features a menagerie of music boxes as well as swinging chimes, a wind-up toy, and random field recordings from around the house. The voices in the mix come from the 1979 record, "The Multi-lingual Bird," an album to help train talking birds to speak Spanish, German, Italian, French, and Yiddish.

This piece - taken from Part II of a two part series - was one of eleven musically guided readings of peculiar weirdos throughout history.

Text is taken from the graphic novel “The Big Book of Weirdos” by Gahan Wilson.
